James Buie has been illustrating Bible Truths with lecturer's chalk since 1955 while he was a student at Mississippi College at Clinton, MS.  He did extensive studies under Dr. Sam Gore, longtime head of the Art Department.

James' interest in chalk art grew from a desire to use art in the presentation of the Gospel in overseas mission service.  Chalk art became an effective tool in his ministry as a pastor and later as a missionary in Spain.  He has also used this ministry in four countries of East Africa and eight short term mission trips to Central America.

James has also used chalk art in over two hundred and fifty revival meetings.  He has made these presentations in eight of our southern states.  His work has been presented many times on television.

He is a graduate of Mississippi College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and has done further studies at the University of Texas and the University of Madrid, Spain.

James draws rapidly with lecturer's chalk.  He highlights the drawings with fluorescent chalk.  Brilliant effects appear in the final moments of the drawing as a dimmer system is utilized to control colored glass bulbs and black lights.  His presentations are accompanied by background music of hymns and gospel songs.  The length of these programs is about 25 minutes.

James Buie's presentations have been described by some as a "spiritual experience".  He is an able artist and an effective preacher of the gospel and has had long experience working with evangelists in campaigns.  He relates himself well to local church programs and to pastors.

Buie spent forty years as a pastor and language missionary.  His pastorates included Woodville Heights Baptist Church of Jackson, MS, First Baptist Church of Byram, MS, and the Westview Baptist Church of Jackson, MS.  He also spent six years as Special Ministries Director of First Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, LA and was Director of the Seaman's Ministry and English for Internationals Program for the Judson Baptist Association.

After retirement the Buies became members of the Parkway Baptist Church of Clinton, MS.

James and his wife Chris make their home in Clinton, MS.  Their son, Greg, is a businessman in Hattiesburg, MS.  He and his wife, Tammy, have two daughters.

Buie desires to serve the Lord and to continue to be used in local churches.  If you would like to have him in your church or group, he would welcome the opportunity.  He is willing to come to your church on a love offering basis.  You can contact him at home (601) 924-4690.  If he is not there at the moment, please leave a message on the answering machine and he will be back with you shortly.    You can also contact him by email on this website .
