The patterns for this set of carvings appear in Buie’s book, “The Big Book of Woodcarving Patterns.” This 246 page volume, in three ring binder form, was copyrighted and privately published in 1997. It received national attention when it appeared in the “Chip Chats” magazine of the National Woodcarvers Association. Recently this book was placed on a CD by Buie and is available at a very reasonable price. Buie’s patterns are first created in clay. Pen and ink sketches are made from the clay model. The sketches become the woodcarving patterns.
